Local projects and templates
Recent folders appear in the collapsible My Project sidebar section. Select a folder to open its workspace; the app restores your last selected project when you next launch it. Project files stay local.
Choose Project, below Setup, to browse templates. The My Project heading is a label; its disclosure arrow only expands or collapses the list. The section’s More menu provides New Project…, Create from Template…, Open Project…, Add Template…, and Refresh Templates. Collapsing the section keeps the current workspace open.
Manage a project
Each project row has a … menu with Open in Finder, Edit Settings…, and Remove from List. The project workspace also has an Edit button that opens the same settings sheet.
Change the display name used by Glyphs MCP, or choose the folder's new location if you moved it. Save updates the app's preferences; it does not rename, move, or modify project files. Cancel leaves the settings unchanged. A folder already listed as another project cannot be assigned twice.
Remove from List forgets the project without deleting its folder. Removing the selected project shows the next recent project, or the template gallery when the list is empty. You can add the folder again using Open Project….
If a folder is missing, choose Edit to reconnect it. Finder and external-app shortcuts remain unavailable until the folder exists again.
Create a project
- Choose Use Template on a bundled, local, or public template card. New Project… starts directly with the included font-project template.
- Enter a name and choose the parent folder.
- Review the file and folder preview, then choose Create Project.
Creation publishes a new directory only after its files are ready. A name collision or failed creation leaves existing projects untouched. The starter includes sources, exports, proofs, documentation and lean Glyphs MCP agent guidance using your configured MCP port.
Templates are independent copies. Updating a template never changes a project created from it. Save an Editable Template Copy… creates a local copy that you can customize in your editor. Use Add Template… to make another folder available in the gallery.
Public templates and offline use
Each template card has a three-dot menu. Choose Add to Favorites to keep it at the top, or Remove from Favorites to return it to the rest of the list. Favorites display a filled star. Both groups are sorted alphabetically across all template sources, and favorites are remembered after restarting the app.
For GitHub templates, Open on GitHub opens the template directory at its pinned revision; Issues opens the issue tracker. Star on GitHub… opens the repository page, where you can view its star count and use GitHub’s Star button. The restricted Stargazers page is not used. Favorites are local preferences and do not star a repository on GitHub. For local templates, Reveal in Finder selects the original template folder. The generated built-in starter has only the favorite action.
The official registry lives in templates/registry.json in the project repository. Entries identify the author, license, public repository, template directory, pinned revision and archive SHA-256. Refresh checks for catalog changes; the bundled catalog remains available if the network is unavailable.
Public templates download as archives. Verified downloads are cached for offline reuse. Git is not needed for scaffolding. The app does not execute template programs and excludes .git databases from copied projects. Unsafe paths, links, duplicate names, oversized archives and checksum failures are rejected.
A public template can include example fonts, scripts and configuration. Review its preview and included licenses. Those files are copied as data; any later execution in an editor or terminal is a separate action.
Git information
The Font project with Git checkpoints template explicitly initializes local Git and enables optional MCP-save checkpoints. Creating that project does not save a font or make an initial commit. Existing projects can opt in through Edit Settings… without initializing Git or authorizing extra font Saves. See checkpoint history, comparison and restoration for its scope and separate Save/Git outcomes.
The project view displays branch, working-tree status, changed files and text diffs. It disables external diff and text-conversion helpers, and avoids optional index locks. Inspection does not initialize, stage, commit, switch branches, fetch, pull, push or clone a repository.
Use Open in Editor… or Open in Git Client… for changes handled by your chosen application. If Git is unavailable, project creation, templates and all non-Git features remain usable.
