Create fonts and save your work

Ask for a new font, or identify an existing one by its name and path. When fonts have similar names, confirm which one you mean. The agent retains the exact document binding instead of substituting whichever window is frontmost.

Create a font

Create an unsaved font named MCP Practice with 1000 units per em. Do not save it yet.

With document.create.v1, create_document opens a font with one Regular master, one Regular instance and no glyphs. It does not use project templates or build custom masters/axes. Add the glyphs you need in Glyphs before trying a glyph edit. The companion's project templates create folders separately.

After a lost response, the agent checks the original creation request with the same key and arguments. It does not create another font to guess the outcome. After a bridge restart, reconcile an uncertain creation with the open documents.

Save or Save As

Ask to save the identified font, or give a new absolute destination ending in .glyphs or .glyphspackage. For a pathless font, Save As is required. The destination must not already exist or belong to another open document.

Saving persists the whole current font, including unrelated unsaved edits. The verified receipt reports the observed path, clean state and saved-source hash. For an edit owned by an MCP job, use its Save font/Save As… action; generic save_document cannot bypass active job ownership. A prior manual Save does not complete the job's acceptance automatically.

Save and continue establishes a prerequisite baseline for typed jobs; native scripts run without Save. The resulting edit still needs its own save authorization. Keep changes without saving leaves the edit unsaved and ends the workflow's recovery offer. See conversation edits.

If a save outcome is uncertain, use Check result on the existing operation. Do not repeat Save or edit the source file outside Glyphs to force a result.

Exact targets and capabilities

Reads can inspect dirty/unsaved fonts. Typed edit preparation needs a saved, clean baseline; historical restoration has its own broader scope.

IntentResolve before editing
Glyph/master scopeExact glyph names and native master IDs; discovery pages can be incomplete.
Layer scopeOwning glyph and native layer ID; repeated layer/master names are not selectors.
Background outlinesOwning foreground layer ID, explicit background surface and outline.background.edit.v1.
Native commandsOnly the connected bridge's advertised closed nativeActions; no guessed menu selector.

The agent checks get_status read/write/job capabilities and uses bounded selectors from the tool reference. Missing capabilities or stale targets must be resolved before editing. A script request uses the separate native-script workflow and its recovery limits.
